Department of Climate Change to appear before Public Works Committee

The Public Works Committee is conducting an inquiry into a proposed office fitout for the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency in Acton, Canberra.

The $20.5 million project would provide the Department with a single location in Canberra to satisfy all its accommodation needs. Proposed for the New Acton precinct on Edinburgh Avenue, the development is expected to achieve top energy efficiency ratings. The Department says that the building ‘will become a point of reference for cost effective and environmentally efficient commercial buildings’. The fitout, across seven floors, is proposed to be commenced in August 2010 for completion by August 2012.

The Public Works Committee is responsible for ensuring that the need, cost and scope proposed is appropriate.
