Megan Doherty, city reporter from the Canberra Times wrote an article in the 5 November 2009 edition of the newspaper about problems being experienced at the Canberra Olympic Pool in Civic. The article hints at economic shortcuts being taken by Territory and Municipal Services (TAMS) as well as indicating that this may be part of a larger plan  to “run down” the pool so that the land may be sold off and reclaimed for other development. FOMM: Help Mapping Rabbit Warrens, Field identification & training sessions (12 November 2009)

Volunteers are invited to participate in a second round of mapping rabbit warrens at Mount Majura, Mount Ainslie and the Watson Woodlands. Come to the information session on 12th of November 2009 to learn about the the mapping project with sessions led by rangers from ACT Parks, Conservation and Lands. What to expect: Volunteers will learn about the project Learn how to identify active warrens Be able to register for a free GPS training session Be able to “adopt” your own mapping site.

Excellence in teaching has its own rewards – North Canberra District teachers awarded for excellence

On 30 October 2009, Canberra Times education reporter Emma MacDonald wrote an article covering the fact that two teachers both working in the North Canberra District have been singled out for their dedication to education. Majura Primary School principal Coralie McAlister was highly commended in the excellent principal category and Black Mountain School teacher Phillip Brown was highly commended in the excellent teacher category. The Planning and Development Amendment Bill No. 2 will make a number of amendments to the Planning and Development Act 2007.
