ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an aggravated robbery and assault which occurred in Acton early today (Friday, January 29).

Around 5am, the 22-year-old man was assaulted in Childers Street by another man. The victim was struck and kicked several times, causing swelling and lacerations to his face. His wallet and contents as well as his passport were stolen.

Director of urban development and design at the University of New South Wales, James Weirick, says the construction race was degrading the nation’s capital. He is particularly scathing of the proposed Nishi development in New Acton in City West.

Any comments about the proposed development should be submitted via email works.approval@natcap.gov.au or alternatively in writing to the National Capital Authority at GPO Box 373, Canberra ACT, 2601 by COB Friday 18 December 2009.

There will be an information session hosted by the proponents (Molonglo Group) on Wednesday 2 December between 15:00 – 20:00 at 21 Marcus Clarke Street. (National Capital Authority representatives will be in attendance from 15:00-17:00)

The Chief Minister has proposed that a park opened on 25 May 2009 on Childers Street in Acton be known as the Latin American Plaza and dedicated to the celebration of multiculturalism.

Heads of diplomatic missions for Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, Peruand Brazil joined the Chief Minister on site for the opening, which also coincided with Argentina’s national day, Revolución de Mayo.
