The ABC News Online is reporting that the office of newly appointed Multicultural Affairs Minister Joy Burch has dramatically slashed the funding for the “Carnival In The City” putting the continuation of the event (as part of the National Multicultural Festival) in jeopardy.

NAIDOC celebrations are held around Australia in July each year to celebrate the culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The ACT Department of Territory and Municipal Services has published an Official Program of Canberra Events for NAIDOC Week 2009.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs is accepting applications for the 2009-10 Multicultural Grants Program.
The aim of the ACT Multicultural Grants Program is to enhance the ACT Community through the development of innovative projects that contribute to sustainable communities by highlighting and promoting cultural diversity and social harmony.
