The Canberra District Rugby League Football Club plans to demolish the Braddon Club – which is located on Cooyong Street, between Donaldson and Torrens Streets – and build a residential/commercial development of up to seven storeys. From the 1920s until 1998 the site was part of the Northbourne Oval. Next Meeting – 16 October (includes AGM)

We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on 16 October 2013 at 7:30  at ACT Sport House, 100 Maitland Street in Hackett. The draft agenda for the meeting is included in this posting. We have invited three guest presenters. Greg Mews from the National Heart Foundation who will be speaking on integrated urban design and sustainable transport. Larissa Redmond and Chris Taylor from Team Telstra will be speaking on the north Canberra rollout of the National Broadband Network. Before the AGM takes place,the committee intends to propose a special resolution to discuss changes to the Constitution. The changes are in the draft agenda for discussion.

Next Council Forum – Wednesday 21 August 2013

The next meeting of the North Canberra Communuity Council will be held at 7:30pm Wednesday 21 August 2013 at ACT Sport House 100 Maitland Street Hackett.  The meeting includes presentations by the  ACT Economic Development Directorate on the Downer local centre re-development proposal, and the federal environment assessment for Block 9 Section 64 Watson; discussion on the ACT Nature Conservation Strategy and also the review of the ACT Water for the Future strategy; and  the Council’s constitution.

North Canberra Community Council will be hosting Tony Gill, Director of Roads ACT at our forum this Wednesday May 15. Tony has been involved in discussions with many community organisations over the years in an attempt to improve traffic flow and safety in neighbourhoods across Canberra. If you think that there is a serious problem in your suburb which might require traffic calming measures or infrastructure improvements then come along and discuss this with us.

City to the Lake – Seminars

The ACT Government has announced  the City to the Lake which is a transformational project being developed within The City Plan, and is integral to realising the City’s potential as the ACT embark on its second century. It is about creating a new public waterfront address and identity for the City.  It is about realising Commonwealth Park and City Hill as celebrated urban parks unified with the centre of the City.  The project connects the City across Parkes Way and includes several important civic projects.
